Proper positioning, cooldown management, and teamwork are the core elements of PvP in Albion. PvP in Albion is DESIGNED to feel more like chess a game - where strategy trumps mechanics. The creators of this game have stated (more than once) that they don't want the "twitch mechanics" employed by games like League and DoTa (See: Faker / Zed) You guys are right, but you're only seeing half the picture. League of Legends has much more variety and depth in combat than Albion.įor a pvp centred game it seems quite shallow (map awareness, positioning, knowing your enemies' weapons and using your few skills at the right times)Īlbion Online's combat is built like a MOBA, not an MMO. Yet considering that I died like an idiot a few times when I started this game in beta and watching my records, I can see that the skill and knowledge is there in this game, just somewhere else. I know that you feel like you just got off your cockpit in a military jet and now you're driving a 1980 cabriolet on the highway. I felt the same after playing WoW for 12+ years raiding for world rankings and pvping for gladiator. Which is to me, a different experience and I still think skill gaps are still there in the game, it is quite easily remarkable if a player is a noob or experienced, braindead or competent.ĭon't get me wrong, I can clearly understand how you are feeling. The skill shows itself in positioning, developing strategies to get through enemy lines and hit healers' faces etc. It has been built around this, and the whole game concept is around this notion of very basic gameplay. Īt the moment this game feels more like a 5 vs 5 all-master-yiĭoing your spell rotation isn't the basis of skill or competence in this game. I would understand it, if this was a PVE oriented game (like the main page still suggests) But for a pvp centred game it seems quite shallow. What this man says, bringing in MOBA styles without the depth. The abilities in Albion Online seem to lack depth in their design and the reason why the limited type of abilities work in (good) MOBAs is because of their incredible depth and variety. Where is Shyvana's dragon morphing ability?

Where is Lee Sin's unique mobile gameplay? Yes it is designed like a MOBA game but I have played a lot of League of Legends and that game has much more variety and depth in combat than Albion. In WoW PvP, I'd be surprised if I pushed more than 6 buttons regularly.

A good Wall of Flames is almost as powerful a disengage tool as Windwall.īesides, at this point, even MMOs are trying to be more like MOBAs. Same with my CC - I can use it on cooldown to low impact, or I can wait for my allies to signal they need it. Or I can wait for our tank to engage and stun 3-4 of them in close proximity, then follow-up for automatic damage. It transfers the complexity away from having 50-70 buttons to push and, instead, puts it into tactics and external combos (IE: Combining your spells with others).Īs a Pyromancer, for example, I can throw out Flame Pillars willy-nilly and watch the enemy dodge them all. This would give each class more depth, and make the limited set of spells you have feel more diverse.Īlbion Online's combat is built like a MOBA, not an MMO. I think that would be cool, they could also add more passive effects like WoW / LoL where casting spells builds up another ability.įor example, playing as a fire mage, every fireball you cast allows you to start heating up, and once you've heated up your next fireball will be transformed into a meteor, or will be instant or something. they could even add a cool-down of like 1 minute between swapping weapons so it doesn't get ridiculous. Or playing as a hammer warrior, being able to swap out to a bow when your opponent is on the run. Imagine playing as a mage slinging spells, and then when your opponent closes the gap on you, you swap to a dagger and start playing as a melee character, bursting them down etc. I think an easy way to implement more diversity and allow people a more robust experience would be to allow people to equip more than 1 weapon and swap between them during combat, much like guild wars 2.
